Look？ng to The Modern Woman Percept？on of Secondary School Students From Soc？al Stud？es’ W？ndow

As we consider the importance of social studies for the social construction of every day life, we can see that it is important to question modern woman perception of people from the perspective of gender mainstreaming. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to understand modern woman perception of secondary school students from the window of social studies. In addition to this, it aims to compare and contrast them with the modern woman image that presents on media.In the context of the study the method have been planned as semiotic analysis. Therefore sixty students from seventh and eighth grades students participated in this study to determine the modern woman perception of the students. It has been asked to them to suggest pictorial representation and then it has been expected to hem what they meant in their pictorial representation by using story telling method. The pictorial representation and the story telling of them have been analysed with using Charles Sander Peierce’s analysis tecniques and Ferdinand de Sausser’s semioligical and synchronic techniques from semiotic methods together. When we examined and analysed the the obtained results, we have seen that modern woman perception of the female students has been shaped with their mother’s social roles, as well as the woman image ,who is beautiful, chic, and stylish, presented and directed by media. In another words, in “modern woman” definition, the perspective which asserts that a woman can gain her strength with her physical appearence like the sparkling surface of a gift box is widespread idea for the students
