Critical Discourse Era in International Relations: The Advance of Revisionist Discourse

This study aims to assess the trajectory of discursive approach, by paying special attention to critical discourse studies, which has currently gained further importance in the field of international relations and has its ontological-epistemological origins in language studies. Discourse analysis studies have been frequently employed in international relations in Turkey; however, conceptual and theoretical dimensions of these studies have not been examined in detail which forms a basic motivation of the current research. The article does not only evaluate the analytical and intellectual opportunities provided by critical discourse studies to the discipline but also in the first section, it briefly highlights the theoretical transformations in international relations discipline. Afterwards, the article analyzes the impact of “language” based studies in the discipline and the various assumptions and methodologies among discursive approaches. The second phase of the article examines the prominent thinkers who shapes the critical discourse analysis and the tools used by this analysis and, it focuses on the aim of critical discourse to re-realize/re-construct the enlightenment in more just and equal way
