The Diglossia in Modern Arab Novel, Example of Abdurrahman Münif

The use of nonstandart local dialects as a language in the Arab novel has been widely debated by literary critics. While some critics thought that the use of local dialects in the novel damaged the quality of the work, some critics found these dialects useful in addressing the feelings of its the people by reflecting their realities. This discussion, which has attracted a great deal of interest among Arab scholars after the occupation of Egypt by France, continues to this day. The approach of Abdurrahman Munif, one of the representatives of socialist realism in the century-old Arab novel, shows itself in the concept of middle language.
