A Prospect on Suicide and Individual Piety: A Comparative Research On Turkish Students and Students from Balkan States Studying In Turkey

Lack of morality of the humankind in the 21th century takes him to different alternatives. After all, after he can’t find satisfying answers why does a person want to kill himself which is regarded as untouchable by Allah? So; we aim to reveal the students’ views of Theology faculty at K？rklareli University and students from other faculties of the same university towards suicide and their religious tendencies. An increase on suicides in Turkey and throughout the world is observed recently. In this research the relationships between the opinions on suicide and individiual piety, cultural differences, gender, marital and economical statues, living places have been tried to be revealed. The research is a field research in which survey method has been used and also suitable for scanning method. The sample is consisted of 200 students from the theology faculty of K？rklareli University (N=80) and the students from other faculties of the same university (N=120) Sample has been applied as “ suicade attitudes” and “Individual religion inventory”. In the findings there are main differences between the attitudes towards the suicide and individual piety; and the suicide and individual piety and gender. And there are local differences of states’ attitudes and faculties towards the suicide and individual piety. Also significant differences has not been found by the marital status, economical situation and living places of people towards the suicide and individual piety
