Performance of international publication activity: ‘Physiology’ field studies in TurkeyKeywords: Fizyoloji,Bilimsel Yay?n,At?f ?ndexi,Bilimsel Performans,Yay?n Etkinli?i Abstract: Introduction and Objectives: The indexes prepared by the leading countries of the world in scientific journals and published in international scientific journals are used by the higher education institutions and countries to evaluate the scientific performance. This study evaluated the performance of the international publication bibliometnc activity using this method of analysis of post-reference field in Turkey in the physiology studies was to determine the number and scientific performance. In addition, it is aimed to reveal the contributions of our universities to the physiology branch and the current academic progress of the developments in these fields and their parallelism with the course determined by the regulations. Materials and Methods: The Web of Science database developed by Thomson Reuters in the range of 1984-2019 was selected as the subject of physiology and articles were listed. Turkey was chosen as a country and publications on this topic and citations were screened. During these years, universities, publications and citation numbers were found by using, “analyze result and create citation report” functions via Web of Science. Findings: When universities except Turkey are removed from the list, 1117 articles have been attained. The total number of citations of 1,117 publications was 14,804. Only 1.05% of these citations were attributed to their own references. Results: Top 10 most cited studies were listed in 1,117 publications. Top three universities which have most publications about physiology in Turkey are Istanbul University, Hacettepe University and Ankara University. Top three countries which have most studies about physiology are United States, Britain and Germany, respectively. Although Turkey is in 26th place in the list. When we look at all the studies in the field of health sciences, it is seen that the physiology branch is in the 2nd place and it is the subject of many publications. It is evaluated that the academic encouragement and support programs, the amendments of the associate professorship examination regulations and our researchers, who continue their studies by returning back to our country after participating in the exchange programs abroad are effective in this increase
