The Evaluation of Disaster Awareness of Nam？k Kemal University Students

Due to the geographical features of it, our country is one of the riskiest countries in the world in terms of the loss of lives caused by natural and human disasters such as earthquake, flood, landslide, avalanche, and fire. However, it has been found out that as the Turkish nation, we either ignore it or do not care enough. At this point, taking necessary precautions and understanding the danger we are in, carries huge importance to reduce the material and spiritua l losses that may occur in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness about what measures should be taken before disasters and how to deal with At pre- and post-disaster period. The study population includes the students of the Nam？k Kemal University, the School of Health, the Faculty of Science and Letters, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, the Vocational School of Technical Sciences, the Vocational School of Social Sciences, the Vocational School of Health Services and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This study was carried out in order to determine the level of awareness of the students who are studying at undergraduate and associate degree departments. A survey consisting of 20 questions was applied to a total of 600 people, 300 female and 300 male in randomly selected 18-30 + age group who studied in 2017-2018. %59.8 of the participants were between the ages of 18-20. The results suggest that there is a clear distinction between disaster awareness and preparation between undergraduate and undergraduate students.
