Investigation with Mixed Research Approach of Career Stresses of Teacher Candidates

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the pre-service teachers' thoughts about career stress levels and their professional future. The research was designed with a mixed research approach. The study group consisted of 239 (146 female and 93 male) teacher candidates studying in different teaching programs and class levels at K?r?kkale University in the 2017-2018 Academic years. While descriptive research was used in the quantitative part of the study, the case study pattern was used in the qualitative section. In the collection of data were used ”Personal Information Form”, “Career Stress Scale’ adapted to Turkish by ?zden and Sertel-Berk (2017) and Open-Ended Questionnaire form’. In the analysis of quantitative data were used descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation), Independent Groups T-test, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Analysis. Content analysis technique was used in the analysis of qualitative data. According to the findings; it was found that the pre-service teachers experienced more anxiety in the pressure of finding a job. As the age and class level increased, there was a decrease in career uncertainty and career stress level. In addition, it was found that the career stress of preschool and guidance and psychological counseling students was higher than physical education teacher candidates. In the qualitative part of the study, it was determined that the causes of anxiety varied. In the first place, it was found that there was concern about not being assigned to profession
