Photographers Make up The Visual History of IzmirKeywords: Kent fotog?raf?,Fotokart,Kartpostal,Kent Ars?ivi,Fotog?raf Stu?dyosu Abstract: Within the scope of the article, pioneering photographers from I?zmir’s visual history and visual process from the first photographs to the 1960s were investigated. I?zmir has been an important and pioneering city in terms of geographical location, cultural structure, which preserves the qualities in every period of history. I?zmir was first photographed by Goupil Fesquet in February 8-16 1840. Until the foundation of the republic of Turkey, I?zmir has hosted many foreign national photographers and photo studios. Since then, the cultural history of I?zmir has begun to be established via visual forms like photos, photo cards and postcards which have been shared with the world. With photograph studios in Izmir, images captured by photog- raphers like Rubellin, Svoboda, Bonfils, Abdullah Fre?res, Pascal Sebah, Policarp Jolier etc, from Istanbul, we get information about the the last period of the Ottoman Empire and Izmir. After the proclamation of the Republic, many young photographers who apprenticed in studios like Hamza Rustem, Rahmizade Bahaeddin Bediz, the founder of photographic studio Resne, Fikri Go?ksay and Mustafa Kapk?n, opened their own studios and contributed to the city’s cultural identity
