The Effects of Social Media Addiction on Academic Procrastination Behaviors of University StudentsKeywords: Sosyal Medya,Ba??ml?l?k,Akademik Erteleme,üniversite ??rencileri Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of social media addiction on academic procrastination behaviors of university students. In this study, the effects of social media dependency and other demographic variables on academic procrastination behaviors of university students were investigated. Design & Methodology: The sample of the study consisted of 251 (55.4%) girls and 202 (44.6%) boys, 453 university students who continue their education in ?n?nü University in 2017-2018 academic year. Data on the social media addiction levels of the participants in the study group Social Media Addiction Scale and data on academic procrastination behavior were collected with the Academic Procrastination Behavior Scale and the data related to their personal information was collected with the Personal Information Form. For the purpose of the study, causal comparative research design was used to determine the causal effect of independent variables on dependent variables. Findings: According to the findings, it was observed that the academic procrastination levels of male students were significantly higher than the female students. In addition, it was observed that the level of academic procrastination behavior of the students who were ?n highly dependent and highly dependent düzey at the level of social media addiction, which is another variable of the study, was statistically higher than the other groups. Implications & Suggestions: At the end of the study, it was observed that the academic procrastination levels of the male students were higher than the female students, and the academic procrastination behavior level of the students who were ba??ml?l?k highly dependent and highly dependent ve at the level of social media addiction, which is another variable of the study, was higher than the other groups. With these results, it is recommended to determine the social media addiction levels of university students as a preventive guidance service and the students who have high dependency level, and the possible academic postponement and failure problems to be experienced by these students, should be carried out
