Abstract:

Increasing employee performance is one of the major issues of organizations in today's competitive environment. It is a necessity for organizational efficiency not to increase costs and decrease employee motivation while increasing employee performance. The behaviors that are shown to the benefit of others as a prosocial behavior, in other words the altruistic behaviors, are one of the methods that can improve the performance of the employee without increasing costs. In this study, the relationship between altruistic behavior and employee performance was investigated. Data from 103 people working in a public institution were collected by a cross-sectional and convenience sample method and analyzed to the testing hypothesis. To collect data, altruistic behavior scale developed by Rushton et al. (1981) and employee performance scale developed by Kirkman and Rosen (1999) were used. Hypothesis testing was performed by correlation and regression analysis. According to the results, altruistic behaviors affect employees' work performance positively and significantly. The results were discussed and suggestions were presented for managers and researchers in the conclusion section
