CLUSTER APPROACH FOR REGIONAL COMPETITIVENESS: CLUSTER STRATEGY PROPOSAL FOR ALANYA TOURISM ACCOMMODATION SECTOR

Cluster approach for local and regional competitiveness which has made heavy influence in the economic development agenda since 1990’s is implemented efficiently in various countries in the world. This study is prepared particularly to emphasize that the clustering methodology should be unique for each country and region due to diversifications in indigenous characteristics of these regions, reasoning from unlike socio-cultural patterns and different administrative structures. In this context, the purpose of the study is identified as to develop a cluster strategy suggestion for Alanya Tourism Accommodation Sector, comprised of tourism accommodation enterprises and the related actors, which are currently operating as geographical agglomerations and a cluster initiative, by targeting a sustainable and competitive cluster in Alanya, based on various cluster analyses. In the line of the said purpose, the Cluster Methodology is applied in two stages; Primarily the Cluster Analyses composed of Diamond Framework Model, Formation of Cluster Map and Cluster Network Analysis are carried out. In the light of the findings of these analyses Strategic Road Map for Cluster Development including identification of cluster purpose and the strategic goals, in other words the basic intervention areas is developed by using strategic planning technique in the second stage. In the last part of the study some recommendations are put forward by conducting various evaluations related to Alanya tourism accommodation sector
