The Opinions of the Novice Candidate Teachers on the Values Education

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of novice teacher about the role of teachers in the value gaining process of students. The research was designed as a case study from qualitative research designs. The research was conducted in Gercü? district of Batman province in 2016-2017 academic year. The study group consisted of 50 novice teachers working in different schools and branches. Interview form was used as data collection tool. The research data were obtained via interview form. The data were analyzed with content analysis. According to the results of the research, it was found out that the novice teachers emphasized 46 values and “respect, love, honesty, truth, tolerance and responsibility” are mostly mentioned values in the student’s value gaining process. It was determined that novice teachers made values to students with “value clarification, value inculcation, value analysis, learning through action and observation and implicit learning” approaches. It has been revealed that novice teachers need “environmental opportunities”, “student effort” and “teacher effort” in the students’ value gaining process and novice teachers determined the students' appreciation by “expressing value”, “observing their actions” and referring to “stakeholder views”
