Water Waqfs of Silistre at XV-XVII. Centuries

Waqf properties were used in a number of revenue-generating sectors depending on the facilities in the region where they were set up. Economic entrepreneurship of waqf institutions is a subject that should be studied on a city by city basis. In this context, this study discusses the kind of activities carried out by local sectors engaged with rivers and water resources in cooperation with Silistre waqfs established on the banks of the Danube River in Eastern Rumelia. Thus, it will be possible to determine to which extent water waqfs, of eastern Rumelia used the regional commercial potentials and hence their dominance in economic areas
