POPULARIZATION OF DOMBRA IN TURKEY AND A DOMBRA ARTIST: SEDAT SOLAKO?LUKeywords: Kazak Türkleri,Müzik,Dombra,Popüler Kültür,Sedat Solako?lu Abstract: In music, which is very difficult to define considering the forms of performing it, its functions and its effect on people, instruments are very important. The types, history, crafting techniques, materials and their changes and transformations through time and locations are all in their own right a field of study. It is seen that dombra is one of the instruments that attracts notice in Turkey, especially in recent years. Especially the song named dombra, written and composed by Arslanbek Sultanbekov in 1997, and various covers of this song increased interest in the dombra. In this study, dombra, which is considered to be one of the oldest instruments of the Turkic world and takes an especially important place in the culture of Kazakh Turks, is the main focus. Following the information about dombra is given, the emphasis is laid on dombra’s place in Turkey. The reasons and results of the popularity of dombra, which has also caught on by the influence of popular culture, are examined, and in this context, Sedat Solako?lu, a dombra performer and teacher in Turkey, is introduced. In the study, the unifying effect of the Turkic instrument dombra is interpreted on the terms of the power of popular culture and the continuity of an artist’s tradition
