Abstract:

In the 2017-2018 academic year, the two-stage university entrance examination system, called the Entrance Examination for Higher Education (YGS) and the Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS), was changed. The changing examination system is called as the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Not only the name of the university entrance examination system, but also the number of sessions in the exam, exam dates, number of questions and the distribution of questions by branches have been changed. According to this, the exam consists of two sessions: Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and Field Proficiency Test (AYT). In this context, the aim of this study is to reveal opinions of the 12th grade high school students about the changing examination system and to evaluate the university entrance examination system within this framework. The research is a qualitative study and the data was obtained by semi-structured interview form. The data of the study were analyzed using content analysis technique. According to the results of the study, it can be said that the changes made during the education period caused anxiety and stress on some students but the application of the examination at a later date was welcomed positively by the students.
