An Evaluation of William of Ockham in the Context of Ontology

This study is an attempt to evaluate William's doctrine of being. However, in philosophical history, thinking about a thinker’s view of being, trying to describe it only through their own view of being is a problematic approach. Because the debate on being is a long-standing debate extending from the Classical Greeks to the present day. For this, first, a short answer to the question "what is being?" was presented and then an explanatory evaluation was made on Aristotle, who was one of the first and most important philosophers of this debate, and ousias. The second part of this our study aims to explain the hierarchy of being that Plotinus formed through Porphyrios for the transition to the middle Ages. The aim with which the flow formed its background and refers to the essence of our study is to provide basis for William of Ockham’s doctrine of being. The last part of our study involves the evaluation of William's perception of being with reference to "terms and universals". In conclusion, according to William, the types of being Aristotle expressed in his categories are linguistic distinctions that have no "ontic" correspondence
