Professor Tevfik [Suba？？], 1879-1954

Tevfik Suba？？ was a professor of physics who taught at the Darülfünun’s Faculty of Science at Istanbul from 1910 to 1933. Graduated from the ‘Mathematics Section’ of the said faculty, Tevfik started his career at the Ministry of Education (1902). Thanks to the initiatives of Sait Gelenbevio？lu, professor physics at the Darülfünun, he was appointed assistant professor in physics to the Faculty of Science in 1910. Soon after, he left for Paris to improve his knowledge at La Sorbonne. When back, he became assistant to Salih Zeki, professor of mathematics, and was promoted professor in 1919. He also taught physics at the ？nas Darülfünunu, the ‘University for Girls”. He lost his position at the University Reformation of 1933 when the Darülfünun was abolished, and he was put to retirement after 23 years of service as a professor. He became a high school teacher to earn his life. Tevfik Suba？？ authored 24 articles that were published in the journal of the Darülfünun’s Faculty of Science (Fen/Fünun Fakültesi Mecmuas？) between 1916-1931. His two-volume textbook on physics (Fizik-i Umumi, 2 vols.) saw many editions between 1916-1928
