Teachers’ Views Regarding Its Suitability to Train of Critical Thinking Skills of the Activities in the Learning Domain of Global Connections

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to determine the opinions of teachers of social studies who are interested in bringing the critical thinking skills of activities in the field of "Global Connections" learning into effect. A total of 20 social studies teachers who are working in the schools in Trabzon have participated in the research. An open-ended questionnaire was used in the survey. The obtained data were analyzed using the Nvivo0.9 program. Codes were generated from the data obtained from the analysis. Generated codes were presented to the reader in the form of models. As a result of the research, it has been revealed that teachers use more methods such as discussion, performance and project making, case study method, theater and drama application, brain storming in their activities in order to gain critical thinking skills by providing students with a global perspective. It has been seen that the teachers about social studies lessons for global events and developments have been dealing with skills such as "awareness, sensitivity, critical thinking, interpreting, different perspectives". In this context, it can be said that the field of Global Connections learning has improved the students' awareness of their own cultures and other cultures around the world
