The Effect of the Layered Curriculum Method on the Students’ Cognitive Learning Levels

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the Layered Curriculum Method on the students’ levels of cognitive learning. The participants of the study were 107 students who studied in a state secondary school. The quasi-experimental research design with post-test and paired control group was used in the study. The subject of area measurement was taught to the study group based on the Layered Curriculum Method but with the lecture and question-answer methods in controls group for four weeks. At the end of the application, levels of cognitive learning test was applied to experiment group and to control groups as posttest. According the data, it is indicated that Layered Curriculum Method is more effective on the students’ the first cognition level based on the remembering and understanding stages and the third cognition level based on the analyzing, evaluation and creation stages. But there could not be found any significant difference among groups in terms of the second cognitive level based on the applying stage
