Healthy lifestyle behaviours of university students

Abstract:

Objective: This study aims to examine the healthy lifestyle behaviors and certain factors which have an influence on such behaviors of the students in the Department of Emergency Aid and Disaster Management (EADM) at a university. Methods: In this cross-sectional, descriptive study, the research group was 74.3% (n=268) of the target population. The data of the variables was collected by the questionnaire form which is prepared by the researcher and the Healthy Life Style Behavior Scale (HLSB-II). Results: 59.8% of the study group is male, 60.3% is working and 55.2% is upper class students. In the group with a mean age (SS) of 21.3 (±1.6) and the mean scores of participants are 131.3 (±17.5) for HLSB-II. According to the logistic regression analysis, compare to lower classes, upper classes (OR=2.02; p=0.02) and compare to never smokers, current and former smokers (OR=2.20; p=0.02) were insufficient in stress management. Similarly, compare to men, women (OR=3.57 p<0.01) and compare to lifetime abstainer, current and former alcohol drinkers (OR=2.62; p<0.01) were insufficient in physical activity. In the interpersonal subscale, as the relationship with school friends increase, the score from this subscale also increase (OR=0.85; p=0.02). Conclusion: It is found that there is a correlation between some subscales of the students' scale of the HLSB II scale and upper classes, smoking, alcohol using, school relationships and female gender
