An Investigation on Alternative Measurement and Evaluation in Physical Education and Sport Teaching

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to examine of physical education teachers' level of importance and use of measurement and evaluation tools by stakeholder perspectives. The research was carried out in mixed mothod. 440 teachers (private n = 215, public n = 225) who work in Manisa and Izmir provinces constitute the sample group of the research. In the acquisition of quantitative data, "Using and Importance Level of Alternative Measurement and Evaluation Tools Survey in Physical Education" developed by researchers using Balc? and Tekkaya’s (2000) scale was used. In the acquisition of qualitative data, qualitative interview forms developed by researchers for private and public-school teachers and academician were used. Data from interviews with four people from each group were recorded and analyzed by descriptive analysis method. In data analysis, frequency, percentage values and chi square test were used. In the case of obtaining qualitative data, qualitative interview forms developed by the researchers for teachers and academicians were used. Data obtained from interviews with four academicians, four private and four public school physical education teachers were recorded and analyzed by descriptive analysis method. It is understood that teachers use the most observation, least Vee diagram as measurement evaluation tools in their classes. In the analysis of the data for the frequency of use of the alternative measurement and evaluation tools according to the school type, it was seen that private school teachers more often used this tool than public school teachers. It has been understood from interviews that public school teachers have no in-service training on alternative measurement tools but private schools constantly have trained their teachers in this regard
