Abstract:

Columns are axially loaded elements subjected to reversed cyclic loading under earthquake The behavior of the columns becomes very important under the influence of this complex loading pattern. It has been observed that damage caused by collapse or heavy damage after earthquake are caused by lack of confinement. For this reason, the effect of confinement on column behaviour is one of important topics that attract researchers’ attention. In this study, numerical analyses have been performed by using open source object-oriented finite element software OpenSees by taking the experimental study that investigates effect of type of confinement to column behavior, which is performed by Saat?io?lu and ?zcebe (1989) into consideration. When numerical analysis is performed, element and material models to represent the column specimens are correctly selected. The numerical models are analyzed under the effect of the earthquake loads, obtained results are compared with the mentioned study and it is observed that the results are consistent with each other
