Postmodern Narrative in Animation Cinema: The Analysis of The Film Shrek

Postmodernism; which is a reaction to modernism’s metanarratives such as justice, equality, progress, humanism and to its projects like rationality, universality, originality acts with principles such as pluralism, eclecticism, superficiality, intertextuality and nostalgia. Postmodernism –entered literature as a term in 1930s- starts to show its effeckt in cinema in 1980s, after politics, economy, sociology, literaturei architecture and many fields of art. Altough the narrative of postmodern cinema is a reaction to modernism it acts with the main idea ‘’everything goes’’ by using both modern and elassical narrative patterns. Postmodernism; with its features that it added up these narrative genres such as intertextuality, narrative, parody, pastiche, collage and double coding; also enables unusual viewing practices. In this study; the features of postmodern cinema narrative will be discussed in detail of postmodernism and the postmodern narrative elements which predominantly exist in animation cinema recently, will be analysed in 2001 filmed Shrek
