Alumni Tracking Research of Curriculum and Instruction Postgraduate Programs: The Case of Gazi University

Abstract:

This research is an alumni-tracking research of Gazi University, Curriculum Development (CD) and Curriculum and Instruction (CI) postgraduate programs. Cross-sectional survey design was used as a research method, and 25 alumni were reached who were graduated between 2005-2016 and working at non-academic job. As a data collection tool, “Gazi University CI/CD Alumni Tracking Survey” was developed and used by researchers. Results can be summarized as such: Most of the alumni are teachers. Alumni have done these degrees mostly with the purposes of improving themselves and using the acquired knowledge in their professions. Almost half of the alumni were satisfied with the degree, and almost half of them were partially satisfied, while one of the alumni was not satisfied. Alumni communicate with each other at a frequency below the average, share knowledge within the field less likely. They communicate with the university at a frequency below the average as well. Alumni expect alumni meetings, an alumni association and an alumni-tracking system in order to build up a quality relationship. Based on the results, it can be said that it will be useful to evaluate the curricula. In order to sustain the relationship between alumni and the university, and to benefit from this relationship, annual alumni meetings can be organized, alumni can be invited to the classes to inform current students, and collaborative works can be done with alumni. In addition, developing an alumni-tracking system will be useful in order to develop a sustainable relationship with them
