The Views of Balkan State Students Studying in Turkey Towards Suicide and Their Life Satisfaction

Abstract The depressions appeared as a result of the modern world have thereatened almost all human beings. In this regard, people having difficulty in coping with these threats could display different and inconsistent behaviours. Therefore, they may even take their own lives. Grounded on this, this study aims to investigate the tendencies of Balkan state students receiving education in Turkey towards suicide and examine their perspectives on life satisfactions. In that sense, this study aims to find out whether there is a statistically significant relationship between views on sucicide and life satisfaction, gender, marital status, income status, the place they live, cultural differences, religion, and education. The data was conducted by means of “Attitudes towards suicide questionnaire” and “life satisfaction scale”. The paricipants included 260 students from various Balkan states comprising of Albania (N=66), Bosnia Herzegovina (N=11), Kosovo (N=72), Serbia (N=15), Macedonia (N=36), Montenegro (N=10), Bulgaria (N=10), and Greece (N=40). The findings of the study revealed that there was not a statistically significant difference between students’ views on sucicide, life satifaction and the views on suicide, gender. The results of the study indicated that there was a moderate difference between the place the students live, religion and faculty, views on suicide, and life satisfaction. Lastly, there wasn’t a statistically significant difference found between marital status, income status, and different states, views on suicide and life satisfaction
