WHAT DO CARTOONS OFFER TO CHILDREN?

Children in a rapid de- velopment period for cognitive, affective, and physiological devel- opment take as a role model, primarily their parents, some persons and characters around them that they love and have respect. Cartoon characters are also among such role models that children watch lovingly. It becomes more of an issue, in terms of child development, to know to what extent foreign cultures, negative and positive behaviors are reflected to the child in television broadcast, and to what extent the car- toons transfer the reli- gious and cultural values in the society where they are broadcast as children like the characters in such cartoons. For that purpose, local and foreign cartoons are put through content analysis; reli- gious-cultural values and negative messages are determined in them.
