SOME KURRAS FROM HARRAN

The current level of Harran in terms of Qiraat is far from desirable. It is, therefore, necessary to find out why its current state is as such while it was one of the centers of Qiraat as an Islamic branch of science. It is possible to encounter the names of people from this place in Tabaqat books and several works on Islamic sciences. If the situation of Harran in the field of Qiraat is examined based on the biographies of related individuals, it is recognized that this place has a considerable place in that field. Yet, most of the kurras cited by al-Harrani have studied Qiraat in different cities, such that they have ensured that some Qiraat related lines have been transferred from the first hand. Some of these individuals who usually lived in between 5th-7th centuries wrote works on Qiraat. These kurras revived this knowledge by teaching in Harran and several other places for years. There were people among their Qiraat students other than their fellow townsmen. It will be understood, when all these are taken into consideration, that Harran has benefited from Qiraat and contributed to this field
