Improving Oral and Dental Health Behavior Basing on Health Promotion Model and Theory of Information Processing in Adolescent

This study is planned to establish nursing activities which are based on theory and model in order to develop oral and dental health behavior. Theories and models related to the subject are used in individual’s health behavior and identifying the factors of this behavior. In the preparation process of development program of oral and dental health, Pender’s Health Promotion Model (HPM) and Gagne’s Theory of Information Processing (TIP) are applied. In this study, adopting the Gagne’s theory of information processing is result from the point of learner’s individual qualifications and removing the motivation to the fore. The core point of Pender’s HPM is self-efficacy perception. Self-efficacy perception is the individual’s believing in himself while accomplishing the intended behavior successfully. Pender emphasizes that if motivation and responsibilities for the health behavior of the individual is increase, the behavior will develop. For the health promoting behavior, this theory and model complete each other. In this model, 16 sectioned activity book on promoting oral and dental health has been prepared. In the first stage, the factors that influence the behavior in order to provide recognizing individual’s own responsibility to improve oral health behavior should be determined. In the second stage, activities are applied according to the theory of information processing steps by considering the affecting factors to provide change in behavior.
