Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine whether the critical thinking levels of high school students differ in respect of several variables. In accordance with this aim, questions such as what the level of critical thinking in students is ; whether it varies in relation to gender, education level of parents, academic success. The study follows ‘survey’ model. The study group of the survey consists of 345 randomly chosen preparation class, first grade and third grade students of a randomly chosen high school in 2016-2017 education year. In this study, the ‘Critical Thinking Scale’ with 30 items developed by ?zdemir (2005) as well as the ‘Personal Information Form’ developed by the researcher is used to collect data. The data obtained as a result of the application were transferred to computer environment, and analysed with SPSS 22 package programme. In the analysis of the data, Independent Groups T test and One-way ANOVA were used. With survey results, it has been established that no meaningful differences occur in the critical thinking levels of high school students in relation to grade differences and the education level of either parent; on the other hand, the scores vary depending on gender, academic success, and the school subject they most discuss and ask questions about
