How the Story of Layla and Majnun was reflected in the Diwan of Sheikh-ul-Islam YahyaKeywords: Leyla ile Mecn?n Hikayesi,?eyhülislam Yahya Divan?,divan ?iiri Abstract: Leyla and Mecn?n are the heroes of a famous love story whose source is Arabic literature. This story has been written in classical Arabic, Persian and Turkish literatures as a masnavi by the many poets of these literary traditions. Not only have divan poets told this story in the form of masnavi but they have also often referred to this story in their divans. The attention given to this story in the divan literature increased after Fuzuli wrote the story of Leyla and Mecnun in the masnavi form in the 16th century and the names of these heroes became more common in divans. Sheikhulislam Yahya was the one to mention the heroes of this story most often among the 17th century poets. In addition to mentioning these heroes in many gazels, Yahya Efendi penned a detached gazel with the title of Kays (Mecnun). In this article, we examined how these two legendary heroes were portrayed in the Divan of Sheikhulislam Yahya and we tried to explain the couplets concerned with this topic within various meaning frameworks, mainly in Sufism
