The Spatial Quality in Public Space and the Society; the Example of Emin？nü Tahtakale

Public spaces constitutes one of the most eminent parts of the urban living. These spaces serve as a means of integration for different segments of the society. Hence, public spaces play a key role in developing the perception of the city and defining the city. These spaces emerge as meeting places where users of all kinds exist with their cultural varieties and constitute a society embracing these differences and learning from each other. This study will try to analyse and reveal the relationship between public space and social structure and how public open spaces effect the life of the individuals within the context of Eminonu district. Tahtakale neighborhood of Eminonu is selected as the focus of the study for being the cultural, historical an commercial center of Istanbul. The spatial qualities of puclic spaces within this area will be evaluated and it is aimed to bring together a document proposing solutions and suggesting policies to enhance these qualities based on the analyses
