AN EVALUATION ON REPRODUCTION OF GENDER ROLES AT CHILDREN’S TV PROGRAMMES: NEWS FROM THE CHILDREN

Mass Media has an effect on human life during historical process. Television, which is a means of the communication, entertainment and information, is one of the most effective communication device. In this regard, it is very important to expound the messages which come up in media content in terms of the evauation of reflection on the opinions of audiences. This study aims to examine how traditional male-dominated gender roles reflected on children’s TV programmes. With this purpose, consecutive 4 parts mentioned roles on random sampling handled and qualitative content analysis used as method at the study. When content of the programme examined, at the TV programme named “News from the Children” some questions addressed to children who attributed some qualifications on their genders. Behaviours, roles and speechs of the children at the programme have an important position due to their target audiences. This situation occupy a significant part of daily living of children and this makes a possibility of easily reception which is risky. When it is considered informations in the TV programmes transfered in various forms and aimed for a purpose, children’s TV programmes must be examined seperately. In this context, main research question of the study is if the gender stereotype judgement is reproduced by television at children’s TV programmes or not, if it’s reproduced, how this matter of fact takes shape
