Abstract:

According to coastal law, the shoreline is defined as a point where water from the sea, natural and artificial lakes or rivers touches the land, not considering flood conditions. In recent years, rapid shoreline changes have occurred due to extreme conditions, which are caused by human and physical factors in coastal regions. Such rapid changes in the coastal lines negatively affect the coastal ecosystem, but also considerably reduce the sustainability of the coast. Therefore, periodic examination of temporal and geometric shoreline changes has the great importance in making effective decisions for coastal areas. The purpose of this study is to determine the shoreline changes occurring on the coast of the G?ksu Delta by using Digital Shoreline Analysis tool. For this purpose, Landsat satellite images of the G?ksu delta have been obtained and then shoreline maps produced from the data sets in order to calculate rates of historical shoreline changes. As a result, according to the Net Shoreline Movement statistics, during the 33 years the maximum shoreline retreat in G?ksu delta is -755 m, while the maximum shoreline progression was 695 m. In addition to that, according to the End Point Rate statistic the maximum coastal erosion of G?ksu delta is -38 m/yr whereas the maximum accumulation rate is 21 m/yr in 33 year
