Abstract:

Although Unutulan Adam (1935) and Othello (1604-1605) were written in different centuries for different audience/readers, like the literary lives of Naz?m Hikmet and William Shakespeare who lived in different centuries in different countries, have similarities. In this regard, the aim of this article is to demonstrate that in both plays the protagonists are dealt with in similar ways. The protagonists go experience a downfall from their lives full of success to lives where they ultimately suffer oblivion and they not only cause the destruction of their beloved but also they are spiritually and physically destroyed. In Unutulan Adam the reasons which lead to Doctor’s collapse are the affair betwen his wife and assistant and the fear of losing his fame. In Othello Iago makes up an affair, which does not exist, between Desdemona and Cassio and uses this affair in order to avenge upon Othello. In this sense, he makes Othello feel jealousy, anger and hatred towards Desdemona. Moreover, the sense of jealousy is dealt with in both plays; however, in Unutulan Adam jealousy is presented as a harmless feeling while in Othello it turns into a destructive force
