A SCRUTINY ON THE SOCIAL CAPITAL LEVELS OF THE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN INTERCOLLEGIATE SPORTS COMPETITIONS WITHIN SPORTS ENVIRONMENT

Sociologically, social capital can be considered a factor that both reveals the social confidence and solidarity elements and ensures the update of the social communication networks. Social capital is effective in reducing isolation from the society or antisocial behaviors to micro levels by means of establishing social connections with high level of cognition. The objective of this study is to examine the social capital levels of the students participating in the Ko？ Sports Fest Intercollegiate Fencing- KarateOrienteering Turkey Championships that was available in the 2017 activity program of the University Sports Federation and that was held on 1-3/5/2017 at Seljuk University and to determine whether they differentiate according to some variables or not within sports environment. The research group is constituted by 243 sportspeople taking part in the mentioned competitions. In this study conducted on the basis of the survey model, the Empathy in Sports Environment (SEM) Scale, which was developed by Onyx and Bullen (2000) and whose validity and reliability in Turkish was testified by Ardahan (2012), was used. 16.0 statistics package program was used in the evaluation of the data and in finding the calculated values. The data were summarized by providing the mean and standard deviations. As the data exhibited normal distribution, for the binary cluster comparisons, the independent group t test, and for the comparisons of multiple clusters, One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) were used. The scale reliability coefficient within the scope of this study was calculated as .77. The level of significance in the study was taken as 0.05
