Child Abuse and Solution Proposals

Child abuse and neglect are defined as the presence of non-accidental injuries as a result of physical assault or failure to protect of the child by the caregiver which causes disorders in the physical, social-emotional or sexual development of the child. This is a problem that most of the cultures in the world -including our country- has to face. There are three types of child maltreatment identified as physical, emotional and sexual abuse. All types of maltreatment cause behavioral, emotional and social problems and they have negative effects on child development. These problems have medical, judicial, psychological and social dimensions with a dramatic end. To protect the new generations and to provide the healthy development of the society a multi-dimensional approach should be embraced and enforced. With this point of view child maltreatment, types of child abuse, the prevalence of it, its effects on the child, juridical dimensions and preventions are discussed in this article
