Evaluation of Reading Rates According to Word Length of Primary School StudentsKeywords: ilkokul,??renci,kelime,okuma,h?z Abstract: It is one of the main objectives of the Turkish language course that primary school students should acquire reading skills in the best way. The aim of this research is to evaluate the speed of reading according to the word length of primary school students. The research was conducted in May 2017 in a state primary school in Yozgat province center. This research aimed to determine the reading speeds according to the word length of primary school students is the survey research from the quantitative research methods. The universe of the research is the primary school students who are educated in the primary schools in the city of Yozgat. The sample is composed of students in a state primary school in Yozgat province center. Data were collected from 342 elementary school students in total. The data collection tool was developed by the researcher. The data were collected with the "reading speed determination form according to word length" prepared by the researcher. Frequency, percentage and mean of descriptive statistics for analysis of data, one-way ANOVA was used for unrelated samples from inferential statistics. When the averages of the primary school grade levels were taken, the mean scores of the first grade students in the first grade students were 72, the mean reading duration of the second grade students was 48, the words of the third grade students were 28, and the mean reading duration of the fourth grade students was 26, It is seen that the words of all primary school students are 44 times the average reading time. F (3, 338)=184, p <.01. Indicating that primary school students had a meaningful difference in word reading speeds according to class levels. In other words, the speed of vocabulary reading of elementary school students varies significantly according to grade levels
