‘’SANITATION’’ CONCEPT IN THE DWELLING ARCHITECTURE DURING REPUBLICAN PERIOD (1960-1980): SAMPLE OF ANTALYA BALBEY DISTRICT

The Republican ideology is trying to redesign the way of life of the society as well as changing the way of administration. One of the outstanding titles in this design is the concept of sanitary. The most important reason why the Republican ideology that advocates modernity in every area of life, attaches importance to health is bad health conditions that come from the past and effect the society deeply. Struggle with contagious diseases from war period and before, healthy generations, health services provided by the state become government policy for Republic of Turkey. The concept of sanitary in in architecture makes bathroom, toilet and kitchen similar to their contemporaries as a hygiene priority space. At the same time the effects of light and air on health are other topics covered in health, sanitary in the dwelling. In this study, the concept of sanitary was evaluated in architecture of the Republican period. In this context, Balbey District of Antalya province is exemplified in the houses reflecting the period architecture. In these examples, it is seen that the sanitary spaces in traditional dwellings had also taken place contemporarily in Republican period dwellings
