A Research on the Evaluation of the Cereal Species as Roughage

Objective: This study was carried out to determine the yield and feed values of some cereals as roughage for two years in 2015-16 and 2016-17 growing seasons. Material and Methods: In the study 3 bread wheat, 3 durum wheat, 3 triticale, 2 two-row barley, 2 six-row barley cultivars were used as plant material. The experiment was conducted with three replications according to the randomized block design. Plant height, green herbage yield, dry herbage yield, crude protein ratio, crude protein yield, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and relative feed value were investigated. Results: In the research the average of cereal species; plant height between 73.5-102.5 cm, green herbage yield between 1762-3532 kg da-1, dry herbage yield between 640-1268 kg da-1, crude protein ratio between 11.1-12.0%, crude protein yield between 76.2-141.2 kg da-1, acid detergent fiber between 31.3-33.7%, neutral detergent fiber between 55.0-59.0% and relative feed value between 99.7-108.3 have changed. Conclusion: The results of this research it is showed that the use of cereals as roughage will contribute to the closure of a lack of roughage in Turkey.
