An Overview of Importance and Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.,) Production

Sunflower, a member of the family Astreceae, is one of the most important oil seeds in the world. It ranks second after soybean oil in terms of consumption, and it is used for both edible and medicinal purposes. North America is its centre of origin from where it spread to Europe and then to the whole world. It environment friendly source of energy and is preferred in animal farms due to protein rich feedand is also used as fodder to fatten animals, while the seeds are used as bird feed, and the stemsare used as raw material for making bio fuel. It is rich fiber in its structure that increases its nutritional value. The ingredient sarecellregenerative, cholesterol balancing and heart friendly that makes it very valuable from a medicinal point of view. It has high antioxidantanty cancer, fungus, inflammation and antimicrobial properties.
