Abstract:

Assessment center is a different personnel selection method. Assessment centers assuming important functions in the management of business and organizations with highly reliable data especially in the selection or development of managers, are convenient to be used in almost all sectors with the flexibility in themselves and with their structure open to change. This personnel selection method including a detailed assessment of the observation of various inner group or individual actions by sufficient number of experienced managers and specialists, also provides important advantages to “candidate managers looking for their positions” owing to the opportunities presented in numerous and different formats in order to exhibit their strengths. The assessment centers which are yet to be known much in Turkey, seem to be a candidate to be an important management technique in the future due to increasingly complicated work processes with their dynamic structure. The aim of this study is to put forth the historical change and development of AC together with the content and the contribution to personnel management (human resources management) field and provide theoretical knowledge to academicians and professional managers about the assessment techniques and the practical process of AC
