Al-Hikma in Arabic Poetry in Ravza Al-Uq？l by Muhammed b. ？āz？

Words of wisdom, the aphorisms that are based on wise people’s knowledge and life experiences, are widely used in all languages by writers for the purpose of giving advice and guidance. In the Arabic literature wisdom words are usually expressed through poetry, thus making such poetry a literary genre called al-Hikma (wisdom). Arab poets, when reciting their poems, injected wise words in a particular piece of poem in order both to get people’s attention to their poem and to increase the literary value of that poem. When the audience of such poems come across the wise words, the words penetrate their hearts and remain permanently in their minds. Such wise words are also intended to give guidance to the audience. In Muhammed b. ？āz？’s Ravza al-Uqul, one can find a large number of poems that are written in the form of al-Hikma. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate al-Hikma in Ravza al-Uqul by making a comparison of the wise words used by Muhammed b. ？āz？’ with the similar usage of such words in previous sources
