AN ANALYSIS ON MEDIA COVERAGE OF SUICIDE ATTACKS

An important purpose of thesuicide attacks against social peace and national and/or international security is also achieving to be visible in media as much as the results/effects of suicide actions. The fundamental problematic question of working from this perspective is the instrumentalization of media, which is seen as modern front, by the terrorist organizations through the news of suicide attacks to affect broad masses, (fear, intimidation, panic, polarization), to shape societal memory, to make its voice heard on a global scale. In this context, the fundamental thesis defended in the study is that the form and limitations of reporting the actions of suicide attacks in the media determine the shaping of perception of fear and risk in the collective memory. The purpose of the study based on the antagonism of state-terrorism is to examine the presentation formats of the news of suicide attacks in the main news bulletins through the news of suicide attacks realized in Atatürk Airport on June 28, 2016. By using the quantitativenarrative analysis(QNA), how the suicide attack on 28 June 2016 in Ataturk Airport was reported in ATV and Show TV Main News bulletins in the mainstream media was examined in the study
