A Novel Active Power Loss Minimization in Practical Multi-terminal AC-DC Systems based on Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

This paper presents a novel approach for active power loss minimization in multi-terminal AC-DC systems. Real equivalent circuit for the under load tap changer transformers (ULTCs) of the DC converters are considered in the AC-DC power flow algorithm apart from the similar AC-DC power flow studies. So the study provides exact accurate results for real AC-DC applications. Active power loss minimization is provided by Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm. The presented approach is tested on the modified IEEE 14-bus AC-DC test system. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed approach is efficient to reach the global optimum point of minimum active power loss without getting stuck to local minima while satisfying system constraints
