Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the School Experience course based on the views of the teachers who have already taken this course and who are currently enrolled to the course. With this in mind, the course was evaluated in terms of practicality, traceability, goal-orientedness, flexibility, coherence and functionality. With qualitative research approach, the interview technique was used to collect data, maximum variety sampling method was used to form the study group and the views of a total of 26 teacher candidates were taken via a semi-structured interview form. Teacher candidates who have already taken the “School Experience” course at the Faculty of Education, Cumhuriyet University and 6 senior students from pre-school education department, five seniors from elementary education department, five senior students at social studies education department and ten students from science education department at the same faculty were interviewed and data collected were analyzed with descriptive analysis. As a result, it was revealed that there were some factors that negatively affects the relation of the practicality, traceability, flexibility, goal-orientedness of the program with theoretical knowledge and that they assessed that they found the program to be functional under some conditions. Finally, an alternative program was proposed for the school experience course
