Finger Sucking Behaviour in Children

Finger sucking is one of the problems in childhood. It’s an accepted as a problem that is a common behavior during infancy, yet can continue in the following years. Parents can be worried about their children, especially in pre-school and primary school years. However, sucking behavior which is a basic reflex for a child may become a problem to be intervened if it continues in later years, when it’s considered normal in the first years of life. Main information about the etiology, prevalence and treatment of finger-sucking behavior in early childhood is intended to be explained in this study. Particularly, it seems that more work is needed because of the limited number of studies on the psychological dimension of finger-sucking behavior. Therefore, it is thought that this work is a task of creating awareness about finger-sucking behavior
