An Overview Of The Scientific Environment Of Erzurum (Until the Nineteenth Century)Keywords: Erzurum,?lim,Kültür,E?itim Abstract: In this study, the scientific activities that took place until the XIXth century in Erzurum, an ancient city, which has been centered on science and culture in the east of Anatolia, has been discussed in general. In particular, the scientific and cultural neighborhoods in the city, which started with the Saltuks, were moved to a very advanced level by the Ilkhanians. The scientific and cultural institutions in Erzurum, established by them, served not only for the city where it was located, but also for the people of the surrounding cities. From the political conflicts between the states in the XVIth century, the scientific neighborhood in Erzurum has also suffered a lot. Towards the end of this century, the city that has covered its wounds has gained a scientific, literary and cultural identity in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries. Especially in the XVIIIth century, Erzurum reached its level of scientific and cultural self-sufficiency. In this period, such as ?eyhülislam Feyzullah Efendi, Müderris Haz?k Mehmet Efendi and ?eyh ?brahim Hakk? had been educated in Erzurum, had a say in the Ottoman Empire and left their mark in the period they lived.
