A Portrait Of A Leader: Konrad Adenauer, The Germany Chancellor

There are two basic elements that form the political institution; the first one is the size of inputs that carry social demands and interests to the state; the other one is the size of the political will, which processes these social inputs, and transforms them into decision making processes. Political will is generally addressed in political science on the basis of institutions such as associations, interest groups, political parties. Although scientific studies have included the personalities of politicians, there are few scientific studies examining political personalities. However, political governance depends on the personal characteristics of the leaders who hold the political power as well as on the structural factors of a state’s political system and political culture. Thus, the personal qualities of the leaders are of great importance not only for the personal success of that person but also for the success of the political party. In fact, it is very important that the party leaders have the equipment to respond to the expectations and hopes of the people, to mobilize them and to represent the identity, meaning and purpose of their party. This study aims to analyze the personal characteristics, political attitudes and skills of the leader of the CDU party, Konrad Adenauer, who is one of the most dominant leaders of the German political life with a leader-axis political tradition, and thus to reveal the relationship between political leadership and party success
