THE EXISTENCE of QUANTITIES in IBN SINA

The problem of universals is one of the important subjects of the history of philosophy. There ara two kinds of universals: qualities and quantities. This article focused on the existence of quantities in the philosophy of Ibn Sina. Ibn Sina accepts the existence of quantities outside the human mind, as in qualities. But according to him, quantities are not separated from material beings and do not form their substances or part of the substances. On the contrary, quantities are with material beings and their accident. In this frame Ibn S？na criticizes philosophers claiming that quantities are separate from material beings and form their substances. With thisapproach, Ibn Sina is not extreme realist, like the Pythagorean and Plato, but he is a moderate realist, like Aristotle, with its meaning in the Middle Ages
