Determination of Quality Characteristics of Olive Pomace Briquette Used as A Fuel in Hatay Province

In this study; it was checked the quality characteristics of the olive pomace which offered as a fuel for sale in the province of Hatay and whether it is appropriate with the communique of solid fuel control published by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in accordance with Olive Pomace Briquette Specifications in Annex-1 Solid Fuel Specification Definitions. For these purposes the specific mass, moisture content, the amount of oil, Na content, water absorption resistance, deformation force resistance, calorific value, ash content and ultimate analysis of the olive pomace taken from various manufacturers were determined. According to these specifications, it has been determined that briquettes produced by the manufacture having a processing license are in conformity with the values specified in the communique. However, it has been determined that the briquettes produced by manufacturers without a production license do not comply with the communique in terms of oil content and thermal value. As a result of the unlicensed production of prina briquettes, it was determined that approximately 1000 tons of olive oil loss occurred. In addition, some of the physical characteristics of briquettes have shown that unlicensed production has a worse briquetting quality than licensed briquettes
